We have a Controls Engineering position available in our Wilmington, MA office. This person will support controls engineering project requirements involving PLC programming, DCS programming, HMI/SCADA programming, database management, control panel design, instrumentation specification, engineering documentation support, check-out support, and commissioning assistance.

Responsibilities

This role requires the Controls Engineer to conceptualize, detail, and implement control systems for industrial processes and machinery that meet client requirements, including:

  • Develop control system architectures; select components; create schematic diagrams and system documentation
  • Program controllers (PLC, DCS, RTU)
  • Program HMI/SCADA for process visualization
  • Develop databases for archiving/displaying historical system data
  • Implement and commission control systems at client facilities
  • Use controller languages (Ladder, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text, etc.)
  • Leverage standard languages (VBA, .NET, SQL) for HMI/SCADA development (preferred)
  • Design, detail, and implement fiber, wired, and wireless industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, etc.) for larger systems (preferred)
  • Act as technical contributor independently or on teams; may serve as technical lead and mentor junior engineers/technicians; may manage small projects

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical/Control, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science (required)
  • 5+ years preferred, with capabilities in:
    • PLC platforms (e.g., Rockwell Automation)
    • HMI/SCADA platforms (e.g., Rockwell, Inductive Automation Ignition)
    • DCS platforms (e.g., Emerson DeltaV)
    • Field instruments used in process control systems
    • Electrical schematics incl. power distribution < 480 VAC, control panels, NEC standards
    • Automation protocols: HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Traditional I/O, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, OPC, Modbus TCP/IP
    • Familiarity with S88 Batch
    • Life sciences regulatory knowledge: cGMP, 21 CFR Part 11 (preferred)
    • GAMP5; SDLC/SDLC validation practices (preferred)
    • Databases (e.g., SQL)
  • Strong leadership and client-relationship skills
  • Professional references (ideally one peer and one manager)
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
